(see "Piper Knife Technique - The Slipstream" )in the discussion ensued,it was mentioned that the founder, is of Malay ancestry, and the players mentioned that the system is Malay silat influenced. I think this answer my question.Zakyjaafarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12604801864170722706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8398329.post-91364539294016879842011-05-04T05:48:37.129-04:002011-05-04T05:48:37.129-04:00Couldn't agree with you more, thanks neverthel...Couldn't agree with you more, thanks nevertheless.Zakyjaafarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12604801864170722706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8398329.post-5319718926250246282011-04-29T15:02:08.134-04:002011-04-29T15:02:08.134-04:00I have no idea about the history of Piper or the M...I have no idea about the history of Piper or the Malay community of SA. I wouldn't even speculate bc it's been my personal experience that discussions of history in martial arts often end up without any resolution bc we simply don't have the answers.Sean Starkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01099547949193337609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8398329.post-80067103450686934802011-04-29T03:20:02.748-04:002011-04-29T03:20:02.748-04:00Salam,

Hence the resemblance?Zakyjaafarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12604801864170722706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8398329.post-1267667927689878682010-02-01T17:45:09.615-05:002010-02-01T17:45:09.615-05:00Hey Sterling; Well... I would like to continue to pursue some understanding of it as I can but there were so many similarities conceptually that I'm hoping it will percolate for a while and give me some insight.

A few areas that immediately come to mind -- when looking at Ales, how do I get people to make their Ales fluid, connected and more combative? Right now it's done through some "off the maps" drills that I use with my local guys. It may add some new perspectives on ways to get there, but in the end, I just need to get those "off the maps" drills more available for instructors and group leaders.

The trembling hand for instance is something that I have taught my local guys but haven't bothered to teach outside yet, but is related to the wrist movement of the Piper. For us it's a silat twitch. It's not as pronounced as the Piper but has some relationship to keeping an "alive" energy.

I don't think I'm communicating well, what I'm thinking but what I am hoping is to be more deliberate about teaching my personal discoveries beyond my local guys. In that regard, Piper has re-ignited that fire to share and in some ways validated my direction, which often seems counter to most accepted and well received martial arts.Sean Starkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01099547949193337609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8398329.post-78203151116023478362010-02-01T14:26:36.671-05:002010-02-01T14:26:36.671-05:00How do you think this Piper experience will influe...How do you think this Piper experience will influence your PSP? I got to dabble a little with Piper as well, by my experience was much less about over all body movement and much more about the chaotic knife hand movements and energy. It reminded me of how I felt when I first saw the odd angles that Silat uses when compared to many westernized martial arts.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02170990874755347080noreply@blogger.com
